RIVER RELIEF team set to fundraise toward the Central Murray region’s 2022 Flood recovery !!!

I’m sure many of our readers our now aware of the major impacts that have happened throughout the Murray river regions over the past few months with signficant flooding impacting many of the region’s townships along & leading to the Murray river townships.

Unfortunately these impacts will be felt for a long few years ahead with many businesses affected & people vacated from their homes all whilst the regions were coming out of the pandemic which had been stalling the tourism economy for such a long period of time.

So we thought we would do our bit to shine the light on a great initaitaive “RIVER RELIEF” thats been kicking off just recently from Echuca based Lou Conway who decided to fire up a great little fundraising activity thats really started to take off !!!

WHY RIVER RELIEF?

A word from River Relief Co-ordinator Lou Conway

“In 2011 I was living in New Zealand.  In February that year, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook Christchurch.  Tragically, 185 people lost their lives that day. I recall a t-shirt fundraiser from around that time.  I purchased a shirt to support the cause, but it was more than that it was a symbol of hope and unity, I wore that shirt for a good couple of years.

It reminded me of a time when people reached out to others, offered kindness, support, and practical help. The community, and country, empathised and a time were people helped in any way they could.

These memories have led me to this fundraising campaign. Our purpose is to raise money for our communities in need of an extra helping hand during the aftermath of our devastating floods”.

Funds raised will be available to all communities impacted by the floods in our Central Murray meeting of the three rivers communities that being Murray (Dhungala) Campaspe (Yakoa) Goulburn (Kaiella), not specific to any one town.

Where do the funds go?

All funds collected through t-shirt sales or donations are collected and held by Apex Echuca Moama Club.

Apex was chosen as the non-profit organisation to hold and disperse the money we raise.

Apex is a volunteer-run organisation, focused on being of service to the community, particularly those less fortunate.

Unlike some charities, there are zero fees involved with Apex. They are a reputable and trustworthy organisation.

It was crucial that the organisation involved could disperse funds to both VIC and NSW.  There are no geographical constraints, which is important due to the floods impacting both States.

Funds will be available through an application process.  You may apply for yourself, or nominate someone else who is in need of something in particular.  Funds will not be used to cover costs that insurance, or similar, will cover.  More details about the application process can be found on the website here
